Heart racing, face steaming, eyes swelling, hands shaking: this is the feeling of overwhelming love.
I don't know what love is. I don't know how it feels; I don't know how it acts; I don't know what it entails. I can say that I love my friends and family. I can try to convince myself that I have been in love. But I am naive and ignorant to the gravity of real love.
That is until I allowed God to show me what real love is.
Love is watching your coworkers encourage each other while loading and unloading a houseboat full of heavy equipment. Love is the moment a friend looks and you and asks how he can be praying for you. Love is the light hearted jokes and teasing tossed around a staff meeting to air out the mood. Love is the one on one conversations that you never want to end. Love is watching your boss dance to silly music. Love is listening to a co-leader speak truth into young teenagers' lives. Love is treading water in the middle of a lake, humbled by the vast greatness of creation. Love is seeing God's hand move as fifty people come to Christ at the same time, right before your eyes.
Real love is uncontainable. It overflows your veins and floods out of your soul seeping through every pore of your being. Love is so perfect, so beautiful, so pure, that it can't come from anything/anyone but God.
I found myself convulsing, choking up tears because of God's overwhelming love...and nothing else has ever felt so good, so fulfilling, so right.
We have this concept so wrong. We think that we create love by caring. We think we can control it like a volume dial--when we want more we can turn it up and when we want less we can turn it down. We are swimming in blindess, blindess to the greatest gift God ever gave to humanity. Himself.
God is love. Without God love doesn't exist. With God, our capability of love is limitless.
I am still a rookie when it comes to fully understanding this concept of love and I most definitely always will be. It feels great to know that the ruler of the universe is the expert in love so that I don't have to be. All I have to do is trust that God will show me love and allow me to love at His perfect time ; and I find great comfort in that.
